Abstract

One of the important findings during the archeological activities of Siraf port is its decorative plasters, the use of which can be seen in houses, mosques and on the tombstones of Siraf. Thye motifs used in Siraf’s stucco are plant and geometric motifs, which are influenced by the plaster art of the Sassanid period. The decorative richness of these plasters and the few researches related to the effect of Sassanid plastering art on Siraf plastering are among the reasons for addressing this issue. The goal of this research are to identify the decorative types of plant and geometric motifs of Siraf stucco and to examine their similarities and differences with Sassanid period stucco motifs from Chaltarchan and Ctesiphon. Based on this, the main question of the research is, what are the plant and geometric motifs influenced by Sassanid plasters (Chaltarchan and Ctesiphon) in Siraf plasters and what structural component do they have in terms of similarities and differences? This research has been done using a library study and a descriptive- analytical method with a comparative approach. The results of this research show that the plant motifs of Siraf’s plasterwork, such as lotus flower motifs, artichoke leaves, palm trees, vine leaves, grape fruits, as well as framing and bordering with geometric motifs, are influenced by Sassanid period examples. Despite the similarities of the motifs of Siraf with the motifs used in the Sassanid period, the artist of the Siraf period was influenced by the art of the Sassanid period, but he used his creativity and
